Architects Statement

A significant challenged was presented by this project as the site is in a heritage precinct and the neighborhood character requirements have influenced the selection of materials and the design composition of the two storey dwellings. Despite the limitations inherent in this situation, the outcome presents a pleasing synthesis of traditional and contemporary character in residential design.

Lifestyle factors as well as a strong sense of aesthetics were also crucial to the success of this project. The brief included the desire to have the house act as a neutral backdrop for the clients striking furniture and artwork, as well as a strong visual and physical connection between internal living spaces and an expansive timber deck and pool area. Subsequently sweeping fixed windows were utilized together with large glazed sliding doors to open up the house and to fill it with a great sense of light and space.

Internally, with the coated concrete floor slab the magnificent aged, recycled, timber stair as well as the chunky white kitchen bench tops and cabinetry, there is a delightful interplay between raw textures and a bold sleek, sharp edged, contemporary feel within the home.
